Y Sports Leagues provide an introductory, fun experience for children ages 3-18 years old. We're always in need of Volunteer Coaches to help teach sportsmanship, teamwork & specific skills to the kids! No experience necessary, we will provide you with practice plans. Volunteers must be 14 or older. We recommend that teenagers pair up with a friend to co-coach a team. Leaders' Club Senior Leaders will serve as role models for our Junior Leader's and Leaders' Club Program. This includes working with the Leaders' Club Advisor, upholding our YMCA Core Values, and modeling positive behaviors for our teens in the Leaders' Club Program. We will see 3 second grade classes for 45 minutes at a time. These 7-year-olds are taught safety in the water more so than how to properly swim strokes. The volunteer will be in the water with the children and the ratio is 5 children to every volunteer. The volunteer will get specific instruction from the on-deck supervisor as to what they need to work on. Primarily, the volunteer will assist each child to kick using a kickboard or noodle one at a time and catch each child as they streamline off the wall. Children will have different skillsets and be grouped together accordingly to work on different skills. The energy is electric, and volunteers leave with a terrific sense of satisfaction from having assisted these children to know how to be safe in the water. Held on Tuesday and Thursday 10:15am - 12:45pm.
